Estrace (Estradiol)

General information

Estrace is an estrogen medication used to relieve several conditions related to menopause, such as treating hot flashes and vaginal dryness, and preventing osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. This prescription medication works by replacing the estrogen that the ovaries no longer produce.

Directions

Take the medicine only as it was prescribed with proper dose by your doctor. The pills is used once daily. In women a cyclic condition must be take 23 days, fleaded by the next 5 days without any medication intake. After it the cycle revives. The patch is sticked to a hairless part of trunk. Replace plaster application each other week.

Precautions

Inform your doctor if you have blood diseases, circulation problems, a hormone-related cancer or vaginal bleeding. Continuous using of it may produced breast cancer or heart attack. Don't use if you are pregnant.

Contraindications

Allergy, pregnancy, estrogen depending malignant neoplasms, bleeding, thrombophlebitis, pancreatitis, liver failure, hepatic porphyria. Use it only for cure of cancer and thromboembolic sickness.

Possible side effect

Get emergency medical help if you have any of tan allergic reaction such as hives,breathing and swelling. Stop using Estrace and call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as: unusual vaginal bleeding,chest pain or heavy feeling, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder, nausea, sweating, general ill feeling,weakness, headache, confusion, problems with vision, sudden cough, wheezing, pain in one or both legs, vomiting, loss of appetite, increased thirst, muscle weakness, confusion, and jaundice.

Drug interaction

The drug prevents the metabolism cyclosporine resulting in increase of its levels in blood. It can increase the risk of liver illness. Be cautious with the blood thinner such as warfarin (Coumadin),carbamazepine (Carbatrol, Tegretol), phenytoin (Dilantin).

Missed dose

Take the missed dose as soon as possible. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.

Overdose

Overdose can cause nausea, vomiting, or vaginal bleeding.

Storage

Store your medicines at room temperature between 15-30 C (59-86 F). Store away from moisture and light. Keep it out of the reach of children and away from pets.
