Retin-a (Tretinoin)

General information

Retin-A has as active ingredient Tretinoin. It is the acid form of vitamin A. The medicine can be prescribed for treatment of acne vulgaris and keratosis pilaris.

Directions

It is recommended to apply the medicine on clean dry face avoiding irritated skin. Note please, it may take 6-9 weeks to see the effect.

Precautions

Be careful applying the cream; avoid the areas around eyes and lips. Middle aged people can be more sensitive to Retin-A. Before starting your treatment tell your doctor if you have eczema or excessive sensitivity to the sun. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feed.

Contraindications

Patients with hypersensitivity to Retin-A can't use the medicine.

Possible side effects

Side effects can be the following: redness, scaling, itching, and burning. Serious side effects are unlikely to occur. If you notice any side effect not listed above please contact your doctor at once.

Drug interactions

Retin-A can interact with the following medicines: benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, tetracycline, sulfa drugs.

Missed dose

Take the missed dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time of the next intake just skip it and go back to your schedule.

Overdose

If you think you have overdosed the medicine seek emergency medical help at once. The overdose symptoms are chest pain, nausea, irregular heartbeat, and feeling light-headed or fainting.

Storage

Store the medicine at room temperature between 68-77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Do not store your drugs in the bathroom. Keep all drugs away from reach of children and pets.
