Dostinex (Cabergoline)

General information

Dostinex is in a group of drugs called dopamine receptor antagonists. It works by reducing the amount of prolactin that is released from the pituitary gland. It is used to treat a hormone imbalance in which there is too much prolactin in the blood, also called hyperprolactinemia.

Directions

Take this medication exactly as it was prescribed for you. It is usually taken twice each week for at least 6 months. Do not take this medication every day unless your doctor tells you to.

Precautions

Do not use this medication if you are allergic to the drug or if you have hypertension, liver illness, giddiness or pregnant. Don't drink alcohol.

Contraindications

Before using Dostinex, tell your doctor if you are allergic or have high blood pressure or heart problems.

Possible side effect

The medicine may cause giddiness, sickness, eruption, headache, retching, immobility and some allergic reaction. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects.

Drug interaction

Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter medications you use, particularly blood pressure drugs, dopamine blockers, sleeping pills, narcotic pain, anti-anxiety medications, antidepressants or diphenhydramine.

Missed dose

Take the missed dose as soon as possible. Skip the missed dose if it is time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.

Overdose

Call emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medicine. Overdose symptoms may include psychic changes, nasal accumulation, sickness, retching or sluggish.

Storage

Store your medicines at room temperature between between 15-30 C (59-86 F). Store away from moisture and light. Keep it out of the reach of children and away from pets.
