Relafen (Nabumetone)

General information

Relafen is known as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Its main component is nabumetone. It works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body. Relafen is used to treat pain or inflammation caused by arthritis.

Directions

Take Relafen exactly as prescribed by your doctor. For osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis symptoms, the recommended starting dose is 1000 mg once a day or divided into a twice-daily dose. It can be taken with or without food. The maximum recommended daily dosage of Relafen is 2000 mg. It should be taken with a glass of water. Taking it with milk or food may prevent an upset stomach. Relafen should be taken at the same time each day. Do not increase your dose or take it more often than prescribed.

Precautions

Before taking Relafen you should talk with your doctor if you have heart attack, stroke, blood clot, heart disease, congestive heart failure, high blood pressure, stomach ulcers or bleeding, liver or kidney disease, asthma, polyps in your nose, bleeding or blood clotting disorder, diabetes, any allergies, or if you smoke. This drug may make you dizzy or drowsy. Do not drive or perform tasks that require alertness. Use of alcohol and tobacco may increase your risk for stomach bleeding.

Contraindications

You should not take Relafen if you are allergic to Relafen, nabumetone, or any of the inactive components of this medication, you are in the third trimester of pregnancy or breastfeeding, or if you have stomach ulcer, bleeding within the head, hives, or asthma that is caused by aspirin or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor.

Missed dose

Take the missed dose as soon as possible. Skip the missed dose if it is time for your next scheduled dose. Don't take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
