General information
Ceftin is an antibiotic that belongs to the family of medications known as cephalosporins. It is used to treat infections caused by bacteria. It is most often used to treat infections of the ear, throat, sinus, lung, and skin. It is also used to treat gonorrhea, a sexually transmitted infection.

Precautions
Before taking Ceftin you should talk with your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease, intestinal disease, allergy to cephalosporin or penicillin antibiotics, any other allergies. This drug may make you dizzy or drowsy. Do not drive or perform tasks that require alertness. Elderly people may be more sensitive to side effects of Ceftin.
Contraindications
Do not take Ceftin if you are allergic to cefuroxime or any ingredients of this medication, to any of the cephalosporin antibiotics, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Possible side effect
Get emergency medical help if you have abdominal pain, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, nausea, vomiting, fever, skin rash, itching, hives, vaginal itching, shortness of breath, swelling of the hands, feet, loss of appetite, drowsiness. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor.
Drug interactions
Tell your doctor about all other medications you use, especially: diuretics (furosemide, bumetanide, metolazone), antacids (calcium carbonate), H2 blockers (famotidine, ranitidine, cimetidine), proton pump inhibitors (rabeprazole, esomeprazole,omeprazole), oral typhoid vaccine, probenecid. Interaction between two medications does not always mean that you must stop taking one of them. Tell your doctor about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medications you are taking.
Missed dose
Take the missed dose as soon as possible. Skip the missed dose if it is time for your next scheduled dose. Don't take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose
If you think you have overdosed the medicine seek emergency medical help at once. The overdose symptoms are seizures, diarrhea or nausea.
Storage
Store the medicine at room temperature between 59-77 degrees F (15-25 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Do not store the drugs in the bathroom. Keep all drugs away from reach of children and pets.
