General information
Venlafaxine is an antidepressant in a group of drugs called serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). Effexor affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced and cause depression. It is used to treat major depressive disorder, anxiety, and panic disorder.
Directions
Use it exactly as prescribed by your doctor.Use it with a glass of water, with or without meal. Swallow the capsule whole, without crushing or chewing. Keep using this medicine as directed, even if you feel well.
Precautions
You should not take Effexor if you have allergic reaction to Venlafaxine, bipolar disorder, eyes, liver or kidney illnesses. Avoid using the drug if you are pregnant.
Contraindications
Avoid using Effexor if you are pregnant or children with the allergic symptoms.
Possible side effect
The drug may cause fever, confusion, irregular pulse, disquiet, blurring of vision or retching. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects.
Drug interaction
Inform your doctor about all other medications you use. Venlafaxine can cooperate with: MAO inhibitors (Tranylcypromine, Isocarboxazid, Furazolidone, etc), Antiarrhythmic drugs (Quinidine, Propafenone), Antipsychotics (Fluphenazine) or H2-receptor antagonists (Nizatidine, Cimetidine, etc). Consult your doctor or pharmacist for additional information.
Missed dose
Take the missed dose as soon as possible. Skip the missed dose if it is time for your next scheduled dose. Don't take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose
Call emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medicine. Overdose symptoms may include sickness, break heartbeat or giddiness, fainting, chest pain.
Storage
Store your medicines at room temperature between between 68-77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C). Store away from moisture and light. Keep it out of the reach of children and away from pets.
