General information
Venlafaxine is an antidepressant in a group of drugs called serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). It is used to treat major depressive disorder, anxiety, and panic disorder.
Directions
Take Venlafaxine exactly as prescribed by your doctor.Your doctor may occasionally change your dose to make sure you get the best results. It should be taken with a glass of water, with or without food. Do not crush or chew an extended-release tablet. Swallow it whole. Follow your doctor's instructions.
Precautions
Avoid using the medicine if you have an allergy, confusion, liver or kidney illness, pregnancy or breast-feeding a baby. Aged people can be more sensitive to side effects of the medicine.
Contraindications
You should not take this medication if you are allergic to venlafaxine or pregnant women and children.
Possible side effect
Get emergency medical help if you have retching, fever or diarrhoea, anxiety, blurred vision. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for additional information.
Drug interaction
Before using venlafaxine, tell your doctor if you regularly use other medicines that make you sleepy, pain, arthritis, fever, or swelling such as MAO inhibitors, Antiarrhythmic drugs, Antipsychotics and H2-receptor antagonists, Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Consult your doctor or pharmacist for additional information.
Missed dose
Take the missed dose as soon as possible. Skip the missed dose if it is time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose
Overdose symptoms may include sickness, chest pain, breaker heartbeat or giddiness. If you think you have overdosed the medicine seek emergency medical help at once.
Storage
Store your medicines at room temperature between 68-77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C). Store away from moisture and light. Keep it out of the reach of children and away from pets.
