Reminyl (Galantamine)

General information

Reminyl belongs to the family of medications called cholinesterase inhibitors. It works by restoring the balance of certain natural substances (neurotransmitters) in the brain. Reminyl is used to treat mild to moderate confusion (dementia) related to Alzheimer's disease. It does not cure Alzheimer's disease, but it may improve memory, awareness, and the ability to perform daily functions.

Directions

Take Reminyl exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The starting recommended dose is 4 mg twice daily. After four weeks, your doctor may increase your dose to 8 mg twice daily. If necessary, your dose may be increased to 12 mg twice daily after an additional four weeks. Some people may benefit from an even higher dose (16 mg twice daily). People with liver or kidney disease may need a lower dosage.

Precautions

Before taking Reminyl you should talk with your doctor if you have heart problems, kidney disease, kidney failure, stomach or intestinal ulcers, liver disease, liver failure, hepatitis, cirrhosis, bladder problems, asthma, epilepsy or seizures, breathing or lung problems, enlarged prostate, an upcoming surgery, any allergies.
